Introducing our Gala Honorees
We are honored to be presenting three awards to three amazing partners – The Village of Broadview, Senator Don Harmon of the 13th District, and St. Catherine of Siena – St. Lucy and St. Giles Parish. These awards will be presented on Saturday, May 13 at our 25th annual Have a Heart Gala, which is taking place at The Geraghty.
Congregation Partner Award: St. Catherine of Siena – St. Lucy and St. Giles Parish
St. Catherine of Sienna - St. Lucy and St. Giles Parish demonstrated their commitment to helping neighbors who were experiencing homelessness and housing crisis through volunteerism, advocacy, and financial contributions for more than 20 years. The strength of the congregation’s partnership was distinctly clear when they responded to our request to assist Housing Forward with re-establishing an Emergency Shelter at the unused rectory building on the St. Catherine - St. Lucy campus. The shelter provides safe overnight accommodations for 15 individuals seven nights a week throughout the year.
Community Partner Award: Village of Broadview
The Village of Broadview has been an instrumental partner in the development of Housing Forward’s new Permanent Supportive Housing development. The Village and Mayor Katrina Thompson have embraced this project and understand the vital importance of safe, decent, affordable housing. They have been unwavering in their support throughout the twists and turns of new construction development during a worldwide pandemic. The Village of Broadview has welcomed Housing Forward and the future tenants of this development with open hearts, making us feel like we belong in Broadview.
Ending Homelessness Award: Senator Don Harmon of the 13th District
Since taking office as a member of the Illinois Senate in 2003, representing the 39th District, Senator Harmon has been a strong supporter of Housing Forward and an advocate for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Throughout his career, he has supported policy initiatives to provide protection for marginalized and vulnerable populations. Senator Don Harmon is genuinely interested in making transformative change for the people we assist. He is a friend and an ally. He is always a phone call away and responds with compassionate action for individuals and families experiencing homelessness and housing crisis.
