Legal Clinic Provides Wide Range of Services
Like any group comprised of diverse populations, our clients occasionally need legal assistance. Unlike most people though, they often do not have the time or resources to address whatever issues they run into. In order to address this, a monthly legal clinic is available to clients on the first Friday of each month at St. John Lutheran Church in Forest Park (which is also the Friday night shelter). The clinic is offered in partnership with Chicago Volunteer Legal Services, and is staffed entirely by attorneys working pro bono as advocates for clients. Assistance is offered to 25-30 clients annually for issues such as expungement of criminal records, landlord disputes and divorce proceedings, among others.
Clearing up these issues often removes major obstacles to transitioning back to stability, and is an invaluable resource to individuals who would have no other options otherwise. If you're interested in volunteering at the clinic, or know an attorney who is, please contact Attiyya, our Volunteer Coordinator, at volunteer@westsuburbanpads.org or 708.338.1724, ext. 220.
