This week, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development released its annual Point-in-Time count results, reporting steady reductions in homelessness between 2010 and 2016. A more detailed analysis of this data will be available in the weeks ahead, but in the meantime, we encourage everyone to:
Thank you to the board of directors and staff of the Oak Park River Forest Community Foundation, for hosting the 2016 grantees last Thursday at the 19th Century Club for their annual Thanksgiving in October event.

On Saturday, October 22, detective skills were necessary when the Associate Board of Housing Forward presented: “Mystery and Mayhem- a Roaring ‘20s themed crime-solving event to end homelessness.” Held at Untitled in Chicago, the event featured an exciting afternoon of interaction with a professional cast from a popular dinner theater company.
Please join us to launch the Oak Park Homelessness Coalition's 2016 Plan of Action. It's time to make homelessness rare, brief and one time in Oak Park!
On Tuesday, October 4th, the Board of Trustees and Anan Abu-Taleb, President of the Village of Oak Park proclaimed October 2016 as Housing Forward's 25th Anniversary Celebration Month and encouraged all citizens to recognize the need for community support and engagement to positively impact and transform the lives of those in our community in need.
Oct. 8, Noon: Varsity Soccer Teams play at Triton College - 4th Annual Prevail Cup
This annual event, now in its 4th year, is once again sponsored by Athletico and represents the sportsmanlike competition between crosstown "rivals" Oak Park River Forest High School and Fenwick High School boys’ varsity soccer. The winning team will get to keep the traveling Prevail Cup trophy (and bragging rights) for the year. Donations collected at the door will benefit Housing Forward. http://www.housingforward.org/events/housing-forwards-prevail-cup.
Donations collected at this event benefit Housing Forward and allow us the opportunity to increase community awareness about issues facing many of our neighbors who are at-risk of losing vital basic necessities such as housing, heat and food. The Prevail Cup also raises money for Housing Forward's important work in the community. With that support, our neighbors facing financial and housing crisis will receive immediate and compassionate response to address their housing or financial emergency and can work with stability support, financial literacy and job readiness programs to develop life skills that will help them improve future stability.
