House to Home Kits - Special Thanks to Our Supporting Congregations

Thank you to St. Edmund and St. Giles for so generously supporting Housing Forward’s “Open Door Housing” program for individuals and families who are homeless and have a disabling condition. Their substantial contribution of furnishings and supplies will fill 8 apartments for clients moving from the PADS shelter into stable, permanent housing. As we continue to provide families and individuals with stable housing and support, donations of “House to Home” kits provides them the comforts of home. 

Imagine what it would be like to live on the streets or in an emergency shelter for months or years, focusing on survival, with all of your possessions in a backpack. Then you meet a case manager from Housing Forward who determines you’re eligible for the Open Door Housing program. Moving day arrives and you’re standing outside an apartment building, and the case manager hands you your keys. You open the door. It takes your breath away. Dishes in the cupboard and towels in the bathroom, bedding and lamps and even a vacuum cleaner! It’s a home, a real home, made possible by the generosity and compassion of parishioners.

On behalf of those who will soon move into their homes, we thank them for their bigheartedness and for extending faith into action. The giving spirit is powerful indeed!
